How To Clean Your Garbage Disposal

Most of us don’t realize that our garbage disposal needs to be cleaned out regularly. With constant use, residue and particles of food get left behind and can cause the disposal to stink. Cleaning doesn’t require special products; you can use items you probably already have on the shelves.

How To Clean Your Garbage Disposal

• Ice Cubes

This is possibly one of the best ways to clean a kitchen disposal. Just put a few handfuls of ice down the disposal and run some cold water. Turn on the disposal and grind the ice cubes.

• Ice and Rock Salt

If you want some scrubbing power, add about a cup of rock salt to the ice cubes. Always remember that cold water needs to be run down the drain while the disposal is in action.

How To Clean Your Garbage Disposal

• Baking Soda and Vinegar

This is always a good cleaning combination. Pour half a cup of baking soda down the disposal and follow it with a cup of either apple cider vinegar or plain white vinegar. Once the mixture bubbles up, let it sit for five to ten minutes. Then, run some water and run the disposal.

• Citrus

Citrus peels are always a good deodorizer. Orange, lemon, lime, grapefruit, and tangerine peels can all refresh a sink. Make sure that the peels are cut into small slices and turn the water on while grinding peels in the disposal.

How To Clean Your Garbage Disposal

• Boiling Water

Pour some boiling water into your disposal on a somewhat regular basis. This can loosen stubborn food particles and grease.
